TITLE:  Substitute Custodian

 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

  1. High school diploma or higher.
  2. Hold an Illinois driver’s license. 
  3. Self-motivated and adept at problem solving and critical thinking. 
  4. Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints. 
  5. Demonstrate attention to detail. 
  6. Successfully completes required criminal history check, physical, drug screen and proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status.

 

REPORTS TO:   Building and Grounds Director/Building Principal(s)

 

JOB GOAL:  The goal of the custodian is to ensure that all of the District’s buildings and facilities are attractive, comfortable, clean, and sanitary so as to promote, protect, improve and maintain the health and safety of all students and school personnel.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPNSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned building areas on a daily basis according to specified standards.
  2. Ensure that the assigned building, premises, entryways, stairways, sidewalks, driveways and play areas are neat and clean at all times.
  3. Regulate heat, ventilation, air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season, and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
  4. Lock and unlock doors, and arm and disarm alarm systems accordingly to established time schedules.
  5. Ensure that the assigned building is secure before leaving with all windows and doors locked, lights are off except those for safety reasons, and alarm system is engaged.
  6. Change and install light bulbs and pencil sharpeners.
  7. Raise and lower cafeteria tables.
  8. Clean, mop and buff floors in assigned areas.
  9. Clean windows in assigned areas.
  10. Empty all trash cans in assigned areas and ensure that trash is disposed of properly.
  11. Cleans and disinfects assigned restrooms and all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains on a daily basis, and more if required.
  12. Cleans and maintains offices, halls, bathrooms, classrooms, and similar areas in the school building.
  13. Trim grounds as assigned.
  14. Remove graffiti as required.
  15. Interior and/or exterior painting as assigned.
  16. Raise and lower flag as directed.
  17. Remove snow and ice as assigned.
  18. Operates custodial machinery safely and effectively.
  19. Prepares rooms for various staff meetings per specifications in a timely manner.
  20. Maintain custodial closets, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  21. Assist in leading and unloading deliveries.
  22. Move furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities.
  23. Perform emergency procedures and cleaning services as needed.
  24. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Facilities Coordinator
  25. Possess the ability to work in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.)
  26. Works collaboratively with others.
  27. Maintains confidentiality of all school-related matters.
  28. Ability to climb up and down stairs with heavy loads, equipment, cleaning supplies, garbage, etc.
  29. Ability to handle heavy loads, physically demanding, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling.
  30. Ability to lift objects/material up to 50 lbs. (weight handling)
  31. Ability to open and close lunch tables.
  32. Attend and participate in all district-required training programs and in-service workshops.
  33. Assist in providing information to purchase supplies and other related items on the custodial budget.
  34. Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance.
  35. Performs all other duties as dictated by law and/or assigned by a supervisor/administration.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year is to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be completed by the Facilities Coordinator on an annual basis.
