TITLE: Birth to 3 Parent Educator/Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education

  1. State of Illinois Certification/License- Early Childhood
  2. Preschool teaching or student teaching experience is preferred

 

REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Supervisor/Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL: A certified parent educator implements the PAT model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educator partners, facilitates and reflects with families. 

 

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

 

  1. Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy
  2. Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
  3. Setting Instructional Outcomes
  4. Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources - Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs
  5. Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family 

 

 

 

  1. Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport
  2. Establishing a Culture for Learning
  3. Engage in recruitment activities (as applicable)
  4. Develop, monitor and review goals with each family

 

 

  1. Use the PAT Foundational curriculum to share research-based information with families 
  2. Plan and provide personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being
  3. Provide group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with each other, engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase their knowledge of ways to support children's development
  4. Communicating with Families
  5. Engaging Families in Learning
  6. Complete at least an initial and annual developmental screening and health   review for each enrolled child 
  7. Demonstrating Flexibility & Responsiveness
  8. Help parents and children transition to other services as needed, to preschool, or to kindergarten







 

 

    1. Participate in continuous quality improvement 
    2. Reflecting on Learning - Participate in at least 2 hours of reflective supervision monthly and at least 2 hours of staff meetings monthly 
    3. Maintaining Accurate Records - Document personal visits focused on parent-child
    4. Participating in a Professional Community
    5. Growing & Developing Professionally - Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually 
    6. Professionalism

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year to be established by the Board, per Teacher’s Contract.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) and SB 7.  Any conflicts within this provision and SB 7 will be superseded by Ed Reform.
